Practicing Intuition

One of the reasons I love teaching Reiki is that it opens people up to using their intuition. But, you don’t have to take a Reiki class, you can just start practicing!

One of my favorite ways to practice is by paying attention to the songs “stuck” in my head. I listen for them. And, when one pops up, I pay attention.

This morning there were a lot. At least five songs were bouncing around, taking their turn capturing my attention. I noted some in my journal, and I remember one. But the few others that I forgot, and that’s okay.

  1. “I miss you, I’m sorry” by Gracie Abrams

  2. “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry

  3. “Stand by Me” by Ben E. King

I won’t go into too many details, because honestly it will be too long and boring. But, the lyrics to each of them helped guide me.

(And, I did have to look up the lyrics.)

I currently have patches of rashes all over my body. I relate rashes to a separation. When people are separated from something they loved, bodies can release that energy through a rash. Is this perfectly accurate? No, but it’s a clue. A rash is a clue that I’ve separated from someone I love, and I’m healing. As I went to bed last night, I asked for some more clues regarding this rash. And, in the morning, this song. “I miss you, I’m sorry” is highlighting a sadness and guilt that I’d really like to be done with already. I do miss the relationship, I am sorry. And although I’m really ready to move on, my heart is still healing.

“Teenage Dream” is about someone who is going for it. They are all in. And, it’s really time for me to attack my Reiki practice with this gusto. Message received.

The third I didn’t understand. It just came in briefly, and I forgot about it. Until I went to yoga, and the teacher played it during the class. A lovely, calm, yoga-ish version. Stand by yoga? Stand by my teacher? Sure. Yes to Both.

Next time a song appears in your head, try to listen. Even if it’s a jingle from TikTok. Sometimes the most basic pop songs hold a poignant message.

And, something fun, I can often pick up songs for my clients during Reiki sessions, both in person and distance. One time, I even picked up on the song that had been stuck in her head for 2 days: “Cruel Summer” by Taylor Swift.

Intuition can be fun, lighthearted and sweet. In fact, I find that it usually is.

Go, have fun :)
